Studio Grand is a multidisciplinary design and visual communications studio.
The studio practice approach is pragmatic by synthesizing craft, culture and design to elevate narratives. Studio Grand specializes in visual identity, type and typographic design, exhibitions, posters, art books and publications.
Jaamal Benjamin is founder and designer at Studio Grand.
Formerly a dancer/choreographer in Hip-Hop dance theatre, Jaamal's interests as a designer, artist and educator lie mostly in crafting parallels between the black experience, mark-making, social change, movement, and music.
Currently pursuing an MFA in Graphic Design at the Yale School of Art in New Haven, CT, Jaamal previously completed his studies in type design through the Type@Cooper Extended Program. He has also served as a Teaching Assistant in the Principles of Typeface Design and Principles of Display Typeface workshops at The Cooper Union in New York City, where he has supported both students and professionals.
